Big wins for U-14 girls

Wolves under-14 girls led the way as pre-season was wrapped up this weekend.

New coach Emerson Westerby was enjoying his last weekend of freedom before the league season starts, but it made little

difference as Wolves won 88-33 at Ipswich on Saturday before hammering Cambridge Cats 92-7 the following morning.

Acting coaches Tor Freeman and Charles Birtwisle were able to run their full roster, with Sunday's game seeing no fast-breaks after a dominant first period against a Cats side who used an incredible 22 players.

Wolves under-16 boys found things a bit tougher going against Woking Blackhawks before running out 55-43 winners.

Ethan Downing led the way with 13 points and three rebounds, while Simon Patasin had nine points and seven rebounds before leaving the game after committing a second intentional foul. Josh Brooks added eight points and as many boards while Daniel Kostasdinov also had eight points.

With Richmond Knights pulling out of the scheduled friendly, Wolves U-16 girls played the U-14 boys, and with both sides struggling with injuries and illness, the girls squeaked home 51-49 after a 45 minute game.

The under-14 girls start the NBL season with a home game against Kent Crusaders at 12.30pm on Sunday. They're followed at 2.30pm by the under-16 boys facing a tough game against Baltic Stars before the under-16 girls wrap up a long day at 4.30pm when they play Barking RDF.
