Both of Wolves under-16 teams suffered away defeats on Saturday as the NBL season continued.
The girls saw their hopes of winning the South One title end as they went down 61-49 at National Cup winners Haringey Angels while the boys lost 63-56 at Ipswich.
Caitlin Ryan put the visitors 8-6 with just under five minutes gone in the first period, but the hosts scored 12 unanswered points before Lily Harkness capped a 6-0 run to cut Angels’ lead to 18-12 at the first break.
Wolves opened the second period strongly, Jemima Uzoka hitting back-to-back baskets to cap a 10-2 run that gave them a two-point lead before the hosts recovered to go into the locker room 34-29 ahead.
Amye Swinney tied the score at 38 midway through the third period, only to see Angels again finish strongly to take a 48-37 lead into the final break.
Three-ppints from Ryan and Joanna Akpan kept Wolves in touch but they couldn't close the gap and Wolves will return to North London on Saturday hoping to end Angels' perfect start to the season.
Ryan led the visitors with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Uzoka added 12 points and six boards - although the pair only scored five points between them in the second half. Akpan chipped in with seven points and six rebounds while Swinney had five points and three boards.
Meanwhile the boys' play-off hopes took a knock as the loss of top scorer Simon Patasin in the second period proved crucial in their defeat at Ipswich.
Patasin managed 13 points in 12 minutes before leaving the action as Wolves led 20-16 at the first break and were still ahead 30-29 going into the locker room. But a 23-12 third period put the hosts in charge and a 14-11 fourth quarter from Wolves wasn't enough to prevent Adam Pearce's team slipping down to seventh in the NBL East Premier table.
