A good first period performance wasn't enough for Wolves' men as they went down 124-93 at high-flying Derby Trailblazers, on Sunday.

After sharing 44 points in the opening quarter, Thomas Baker's team were blitzed 45-27 in the second period and were never able to regain the initiative.

Wolves were led by Jordan Santiago (32 points) and Kane Daley (20 points) with both players adding, seven rebounds and five assists, while Santiago also collected five steals. AJ Roberts chipped in with 14 points six assists and three steals as well as adding another block to his impressive tally.

Jacob Conway led Blazers with 24 points, while Blake Bowman added 20 points and both Malcolm Smith and Josh Guddemi finished with 19.

Roberts opened the scoring with a jump shot, only to see Derby reel off ten straight points. But Wolves steadied themselves and Daley drained a trey before Roberts and James Cummings - returning after six weeks with an ankle injury - made it a one point game, and a pair of Santiago baskets put the visitors 13-10 ahead.

Santiago hit a triple to keep Wolves ahead and Roberts made it 22-20 in the final stages of the period before Oberia tied the score at 22 heading into the final break.

Daley opened the second quarter scoring, and Roberts levelled the score at 26 with a minute gone before Smith's pair at the foul line launched a 10-2 run that gave Blazers a lead they would never lose.

Ollie Wright marked his return to the side with a triple and it was still a five point game going into the final five minutes of the half before Bowman started a 15-3 run which took the game beyond Wolves and they went into the locker room trailing 67-49.

Daley again scored the first points of the third period, but they were outscored 28-16 to go into the final break 95-65 down, and the hosts edged a high-scoring fourth quarter 29-28 to wrap up the win.

Baker's team now have a weekend off before facing a double header at Leicester Warriors and the home return against Derby.
