Final four dreams end in Richmond

Wolves' under-16 girls saw their hopes of a trip to Manchester end with an 84-52 loss against Richmond Knights, on Sunday.

The scoreline flattered the hosts as Wolves matched across the first and third periods but a run towards the end of the second quarter put Knights in charge, and they ran up the score in the final frame.

The visitors never coped with England international Katie Cox who poured in 41 points for a Knight side who now progress to play Haringey in the play-off semi-finals.

Caitlin Ryan led Wolves with 18 points, shooting three-from-seven outside the arc, and adding six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Jemima Uzoka added eight points and 11 rebounds while Joanna Akpan had six points.

Uzoka opened the scoring for Tor Freeman's side, with Ryan adding four points before Lily Harkness put the visitors 10-7 ahead. Knight replied with four points, but scores from Uzoka and Amy Swinney saw Wolves lead 14-13 at the first break.

Swinney went one-from-two at the foul line as Knights opened the second period with an 8-1 run before Harness and Mila Skipic pulled Wolves back into the game. Eight points from the hosts saw them open a double digit lead, but that was halved as Jacqueline Osei scored a put-back before Ryan drained a three.

But the decisive run saw Knights reel off 13 straight points before Ryan's free-throw cut the margin to 42-25 at half-time.

Skipic opened the second half scoring before Knights went on a 6-0 run which was immediately answered by back-to-back Ryan triples. to cut Richmond's lead to 15 points at the four minute mark,

Despite scores from Ella Brown and Osei, Knights added a point to their lead as they went into the final break 58-40 ahead before four points apiece from Ryan and Akpan in an 8-3 run cut the deficit to 15 going into the final 4:27

That was as close as Wolves came with Cox getting hot behind the arc to bury three triples to end the visitors' season.
