It was a tough weekend for the two St Albans Wolves in action during a weekend that saw only two gam
es.
The under-16 girls saw their National Cup hopes end with a 59-40 loss at Haringey Angels while the under-14 boys were hammered 132-26 by an all-conquering Baltic Stars side.
Wolves started well at Haringey, with Ella Brown giving them a 6-4 lead before the hosts took a 20-16 lead into the first break. However the second quarter saw their offence dried up for the first eight minutes of the period and, despite scores from Mila Skipic-Piscitelli, Caitlin Ryan and Joanna Akpan, they went into the half-time trailing 32-22.
Ryan opened the third period scoring and Skipic-Piscitelli wrapped things up in the dying seconds but the hosts reeled off 18 unanswered points to take a commanding 50-26 lead into the final period.
Wolves started the fourth period well, with Ryan hitting a three-pointer at each end of a 10-0 run but the visitors had left themselves too much to do as Angels progressed to the quarter-finals.
Ryan two triples helped her to a team-high 18 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists. Brown and Skipic-Piscitelli each finished with six points, adding seven and three rebounds respectively.
Meanwhile, it was a difficult trip to Dagenham for the under-14 boys as they faced a Baltic team who have swept all before them this season.
Wolves trailed 39-4 at the first break and were 76-10 down at half-time. They managed to stop the bleeding a bit in the second half being outscored 27-9 and 29-7 in the final two quarters, but still fell to a heavy defeat.
Jayden Harry led Wolves with 11 points, two rebounds and a couple of assists while Kim Robinson had five points and two boards.
