U-14 boys pick up first win

OtisLau-Johnston led the way with 20 points, seven steals and six rebounds as Wolves U-14 boys picked up their first league victory of the season with a 73-33 hammering of Brentwood Fire, on Saturday.

The hosts scored the first eight points to take a lead they would never lose, holding Fire scoreless for more than five minutes to open the game, and went into the first break with a 22-5 lead and extended that advantage to 31-12 after a low scoring second period. A 15-8 third stanza ended the game as a contest before Wolves wrapped things up with a 27-13 final quarter.

Jacob Edrupt added 11 points, five boards and four steals while Sebastian Ball finished with nine points, five rebounds and as many steals as all ten Wolves got on the scoresheet. Despite that victory the game of the day at Oaklands came later on Saturday afternoon as the U-16 boys lost an overtime thriller 71-66 against Baltic Stars II.

In a game that saw four technical fouls and three of the visiting supporters ejected, Lanre Pratt saw a potential game-winner rim out in regulation time before the visitors outscored Wolves 8-3 in the extra period to take the victory.

Daniel Kostadinov again led Adam Pearce’s side, finishing with 27 points and five rebounds while Pratt missed a double-double by a single rebound, scoring 19 points. Alex Riley had a big game on the boards with 13 rebounds to go with his eight points but despite 14 steals, Pearce will lament the 25 turnovers his side committed.

Wolves trailed 13-10 at the first break and went into the half-time 33-29 down. It looked all over at the end of the third period with the visitors leading 48-40 but a storming fourth period saw the visitors outscored 23-15 only to see momentum shift again in the bonus five minutes.
