A 63-46 victory against Kent Crusaders sealed a play-off spot for Wolves under-16 boys, on Sunday.
Ethan Downing led the way for Adam Pearce’s team with 13 points, four assists and as many steals as they ensured a fifth place finish and now face an away trip in the first round of the post-season.
The result never looked in doubt against a Crusaders team who have struggled with injuries all season.
Simon Patasin added 12 point, eight rebounds and five steals, while Bill Irvine added 10 points and five assists for a Wolves side that had ten players trouble the scorers.
A 21-10 second period proved key as Wolves stretched their lead to 34-20 at half-time and they won the final two quarters 15-13 and 14-13 to finish the regular season with a 9-7 record.
The second period was also key the previous week as Wolves won 69-65 at Harrow Falcons/
Pearce’s team trailed 21-15 after the first period but outscored the hosts 23-15 in the second quarter to take a 38-36 lead into the locker room at half-time. A 15-11 third frame saw the visitors take a six point advantage into the final quarter and they hung on to seal the win.
Patasin fined with a 16 point, ten rebound double-double, adding four steals, while Abraham Araba also had a double-double with a 15 points and 13 boards. Downing added 13 points, five assists, three steals and as many rebounds.
The under-14 boys’ difficult season ended with a 105-59 loss at Lewisham Thunder.
Ibrahim Gariba’s team never recovered from a 31-12 first period, and trailed 61-28 at the break. The second half proved to be tighter as the hosts outscored them 24-13 and 20-18 as Wolves finished sixth in the South East Premier.
Jayden Harry led Wolves with 14 points and five rebounds, while Kim Robinson finished with eight points, four assists and three steals.
