The WBBL side suffer a 54-64 loss at home against Leicester Riders.

Wolves looked to get revenge after Riders eliminated them in the WBBL Trophy Quarter Final last week. The game started as a close affair with Oaklands crashing the offensive boards and scoring off second chance points. Leicester played through the pairing of forward Kate Oliver and guard Holly Winterburn as the first quarter ended 11-18.

The home team began the second quarter with a 7-0 run through their hustle and knocking down shots. Jesper Sundberg’s side continued to look to Oliver in the high post and cut around the forward for scores. Their patience on offence allowed them to stay in the game against the Wolves intensity. Lee Ryan’s team ended the period on another run, scoring 8 points to trail by only 3.

The second half saw the Wolves struggle to score against the Riders disciplined defence. Leicester also produced on the offensive end as Winterburn led with 10 third quarter points.

The efforts of Lauren Milligan kept Oaklands within reach as the period ended 39-46. Ryan’s team continued to hustle and crash the offensive boards, grabbing 19 for the game.

However, the eight player Wolves became fatigued, failing to convert their second chance opportunities. The deep Riders side took advantage, jumping out to a lead and ending the game 54-64.

Louise Rouse led Oaklands with 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Carter had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.

Winterburn finished with 22 points for Leicester, alongside Sara Hinriksdottir with 15 points.

Wolves will look to bounce back from the loss as they travel to Caledonia Pride on Sunday.
