The WBBL side earn a 62-72 victory against Caledonia Pride to claim their first league win of the season.

The game began as a close affair with the Wolves dealing with the Pride pressure well, attacking the basket and moving the ball. While Oaklands also played tenacious defence, Caledonia found ways to score themselves as the first quarter ended 18-18.

Lee Ryan’s side furthered their defensive efforts, holding the home team to just 9 points in the second period. Led by Greeta Uprus’ 9 points, Wolves executed on offence to take an 11 point lead at half time.

Pride’s play improved after the break, cutting the lead to 2 points as they found rhythm on both ends of the floor. Oaklands weathered the run through their continued hustle, ending the third quarter 46-52.

Despite being quite for most of the game, Amari Carter exploded for 12 points in the final period. Behind Carter’s scoring, the eight player team showed discipline to maintain their strong defence and remain patient on offence. The side’s efforts saw them grab 22 offensive rebounds, get 15 steals and force 25 turnovers for the game.

Carter finished with 20 points for the Wolves, while Uprus and Louise Rouse scored 14 and 12 respectively.

Lauren Milligan also claimed an impressive double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Pride were led by forward Sian Phillips who had 22 points and 16 rebounds for the game.

The result keeps Oaklands playoff hopes alive, as they face Cardiff Met Archers on Wednesday.
